Five ways to give yourself a break

I started my blog for many reasons. I love to write, I want to help others, I want to share my imperfect life as a way to show imperfection is more than ok, and it also renews my positivity.

Acknowledging when you need to pause

As I began to transition out of a company I have worked at for over 23 years, and started another job at a new company, I had to step back for a few weeks until I could find my new cadence.

When we rush from one thing to the next, without time to reflect, it can be downright overwhelming. You feel flooded with a sea of emotions, riding a rocky wave of being cast about here and there.

With this transition, I chose to slow it down and give myself some slack!

Five things

Here are the five things I did that may help you.

  1. I got real: I acknowledged that I was going to have emotions about leaving my old company and needed time to process that.
  2. I gave myself space: I acknowledged I would have new routines, time commitments, and lots of learning without the support of a known group of colleagues and how things get done.
  3. I remained humble: even though the new role was a step forward in my career, I didn’t take for granted what was in front of me, because of what was behind me
  4. I upped my positivity: I made more time for working out, meditating, and ingesting positive information. I needed my mind to be fully capable and locked on a growth mindset. (Even with getting up at 4:30 am daily)
  5. I let go: I eased up on myself about having to blog weekly. I let go because I realized that it was creating negative self-talk, and it was impacting my ability to write.

We are all facing challenges with the pandemic, family, friends, just making it through the day!! So we do have to recognize when we need to step back and breathe, re-center and find our new cadence.

You have all the time you need

When we take the time to reflect on the additional weight we are carrying, created by our own push to be perfect or to not allow ourselves compassion for where we are, we open up the pathway for growth.

When we want to be our best selves, we have to put in the focus, energy, and self love to make the space to build that capacity.

Final thoughts:

It is easy to be swept away by the world around us, the goals we set for ourselves, and the overwhelming change that comes at us.

However, slowing down to speed up is something that I fully embrace now that I have realized that running all out into our own manifested walls, not only hurts but stunts our personal growth.

It’s okay to step back, find your balance, renew your soul, and refresh your energy as you Shine Brightly!
